431 Stainless Steel

431 stainless steel is a high-chromium martensitic stainless steel known for its outstanding strength, hardness, and moderate corrosion resistance. Compared with standard martensitic grades, it offers improved toughness and better resistance to corrosion due to its higher chromium content. It is commonly used in applications requiring high mechanical performance combined with resistance to mildly corrosive environments, such as shafts, fasteners, pump components, valve parts, marine hardware, and aerospace components. 431 stainless steel can be heat treated to achieve a wide range of strength and hardness levels while maintaining good ductility for engineering applications. It is supplied in hex bar form under standards such as ASTM A276/A479.

Features

Material Advantages

High Strength and Hardness

Martensitic structure allows heat treatment to achieve high strength and hardness for shafts, fasteners and engineering parts.

Improved Martensitic Corrosion Resistance

Higher chromium content provides better corrosion resistance than many lower-chromium martensitic stainless grades.

Heat-Treatable Engineering Grade

Can be heat treated to balance strength, toughness and hardness for mechanical components subject to wear or load.

Shaft and Marine Hardware Service

Used for pump shafts, propeller shafts, valve parts and marine hardware where strength and moderate corrosion resistance are needed.
