A buyer comparing 316L vs 2205 stainless steel is often not choosing between good and better. They are choosing between two different risk profiles.

316L is familiar, widely used, and easier to approve in many clean-service, marine, chemical, pharmaceutical, and general fabrication projects. 2205 can be a stronger option when chloride exposure, pitting, crevice corrosion, or stress corrosion cracking risk becomes more serious. But 2205 also brings extra questions around welding procedure, forming route, material availability, certificate wording, and customer approval.

A useful RFQ should include more than grade and quantity.

But often is not a specification.

The final choice should be based on service environment, product form, standard, fabrication route, inspection plan, and customer approval. If any of those are missing, the buyer is not ready to compare prices.
