Industry Application

Water Treatment

High-performance 304/316 stainless steel round bar provides corrosion-resistant, long-lasting solutions for water treatment systems—304 for general municipal water lines, 316 for higher-corrosion sections such as desalination and chemical dosing—suitable for pump shafts, valve components, and membrane supports.

Problem to Material Route

Chlorinated water attacks steel differently depending on concentration, temperature and flow velocity — 304 that performs in a municipal supply main may pit rapidly in the same plant's chemical dosing section.

304 is commonly specified for structural supports, tanks and pipework in low-chloride municipal water systems. 316 or 316L is often selected for components in direct contact with treated water, chemical dosing lines or seawater desalination pre-treatment where chloride levels are higher. 2205 may be considered for high-pressure or high-velocity sections where both strength and chloride resistance need to exceed austenitic grade capability. Weld quality and post-weld treatment are critical in water-contact applications.

Operating Risk

Pitting corrosion from chlorine dosing in 304-grade components, crevice corrosion at flanges and threaded joints in stagnant zones, microbiologically influenced corrosion in low-flow sections

Operating Context

Industry Overview

In modern water treatment, equipment is constantly exposed to corrosive or chlorine-rich environments, making material durability and stability crucial. Our 304 and 316 stainless steel round bar is engineered for water treatment applications, including pump shafts, valve components, membrane supports, and other critical components. 304 suits general municipal treatment lines, while 316 offers superior resistance for desalination and chemical-dosing systems.
