Industry Application

Marine

Built for the harshest marine environments, our 316/316L stainless steel delivers reliable performance in shipbuilding, offshore engineering, and seawater-exposed structures where corrosion resistance is critical.

Problem to Material Route

Salt spray, seawater immersion and galvanic coupling can all accelerate corrosion in ways that 316L alone may not resist — grade selection depends on actual chloride exposure level and structural requirement.

316L is often specified for above-waterline fittings and light marine hardware where intermittent salt spray is the primary exposure. 2205 is commonly considered for structural components in high-chloride or immersed conditions where 316L shows signs of pitting. 2507 may be evaluated where extreme chloride concentration or longer service life without maintenance is required. Galvanic coupling with aluminium or carbon steel structures should also be considered before grade selection is finalised.

Operating Risk

Pitting and crevice corrosion from chloride immersion, galvanic corrosion at dissimilar metal junctions, stress corrosion cracking in warm seawater environments

Operating Context

Industry Overview

In the Marine industry, materials are constantly challenged by saltwater corrosion, high humidity, mechanical stress, and extreme operating conditions. Our 316/316L marine-grade stainless steel is designed to meet these demands with excellent corrosion resistance, structural integrity, and long-term durability. From shipbuilding structures and offshore platforms to marine engineering equipment and seawater handling systems, our stainless steel ensures stable performance in critical applications. Whether exposed to deep-sea pressure or coastal environments, this material is engineered to extend service life and reduce maintenance costs. We understand that in marine operations, failure is not an option—therefore, every component is specified to support safety, reliability, and operational efficiency across global maritime industries.
